Why I Chose Squarespace

There are a myriad of choices when it comes time to build a website: Wordpress, Shopify, Wix, you’ve probably seen the ads. So why did I chose Squarespace for my own business? In just one sentence it was my previous experience with Veyo Kids.

I started working with Veyo Kids just after their website was completed. It was my first experience working on Squarespace. The first thing I knew that I needed to do was add some search engine optimization (SEO) to the site. The site was beautiful, functional, and told the Veyo Kids story well, but wasn’t getting found by their target audience. I had heard from other digital marketers that it was tough to optimize a Squarespace site for search but as Veyo Kids had invested in the platform already it was a bit too late to switch. I used the same techniques I’d used on other platforms like Shopify and Wordpress to optimize veyokids.com. It was only a few weeks later when I noticed their Google ranking improving. After just a few months and just in time for their busy winter season they were ranking on the first page of Google for top search terms like “toddler gloves” “toddler mittens” and “best kids gloves.” SEO wasn’t our only strategy to rank higher, nor should it be, but we proved that you can get a Squarespace site to rank on Google and other search engines.

It wasn’t just the SEO that impressed me, the conversion rate on veyokids.com remained well above industry averages and is still one of the best conversion rates I’ve seen. While this certainly has a lot to do with Veyo Kids’ exceptional products I won’t discount that Squarespace has a great platform.

Lastly, the ease of use to make changes to a Squarespace site really makes it so anyone can manage a site. Sure, there’s a learning curve and it’s not perfect but I’m not a developer and I’ve now built three sites on Squarespace and have two more in the works.

If you’re looking to build a website I’d keep Squarespace at the top of your list.
